Mozambique to renovate and expand four airports.

Four national airports will soon benefit from rehabilitation and modernization works in order to meet the demands of the airport market.

According to the financial administrator of the company Aeroportos de Moçambique (AdM), Saíde Júnior, one of the four is Inhambane Airport. The works, starting in October, will also involve the construction of a new passenger terminal, increasing the capacity from the current 30,000 to 160,000 passengers per year.

Another national airport that will benefit from investment, also starting in October and ending in September 2025, is Beira Airport, increasing its capacity from 450,000 to 700,000 passengers per year.

The AdM plan also includes Nampula Airport, aiming to increase its passenger and cargo handling capacity.

Pemba airport rehabilitation will be divided into two phases, the first of which will begin in the first quarter of 2025. In the first phase, work will consist of expanding the passenger terminal, the airport apron and opening another runway.

The second phase in Pemba will involve lengthening the runway from the current 1,800 to 2,400 metres, in order to accommodate the larger aircraft connected with natural gas projects in Cabo Delgado.

The amounts to be invested, through the public-private partnership employed, were not disclosed.

The administrator of Aeroportos de Moçambique underscored that the modernization of cargo terminals in some provinces aims to adapt the infrastructures to the current market dynamics and improve competitiveness.

Saíde Júnior was speaking on Wednesday as part of AdM’s participation in the 59th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM), where Airports of Mozambique is promoting airport infrastructures, investment opportunities, services and seeks contacts to establish partnerships.

Airports of Mozambique has in recent years been committed to implementing structural projects and programs aimed at modernising services to offer a more comfortable and safe environment to passengers and other users.
