The culture and tourism sector in Inhambane province, southern Mozambique, is celebrating a successful festive season, with over 40,000 tourists, both domestic and international, flocking to the region.
On January 3rd, Emídio Nhantumbo, the provincial director of Culture and Tourism, shared that visitors predominantly hailed from South Africa, favouring popular spots like Vilankulo, Inhassoro, Massinga, Jangamo, and the city of Inhambane.
Nhantumbo noted, “We have a positive assessment of the festive season, with tourist numbers exceeding our expectations. Although we are still reconciling these figures with the Tax Authority due to the high volume of activity, we are optimistic that this influx will translate into increased revenue for December and January.” The province currently boasts over 700 tourist resorts, and efforts to expand accommodation capacity are ongoing, with 32 new resorts licensed last year. In addition to lodging, many resorts offer diverse dining options, including international and traditional Mozambican cuisine, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
The Inhambane Tourism Association is committed to supporting this growth and ensuring that both tourists and local businesses benefit from the flourishing tourism sector.
